justin...I have had a couple issues with updating to SP2 as well. not sure if my error code matched yours or not (cant remember). I had this in my App log when it failed:
Product: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 -- Error 29538. SQL Server Setup did not have the administrator permissions required to rename a file: s:$PADATAmssqlsystemresource1.ldf. To continue, verify that the file exists, and either grant administrator permissions to the account currently running Setup or log in with an administrator account. Then run SQL Server Setup again.
The error code is (2) The system cannot find the file specified.
Basically what I did to fix the issue is make sure these files existed at the specified location in that error message: mssqlsystemresource1.mdf, distmdl.ldf and distmdl.mdf.
The ensure that these local users have Full Control to the folder that those files are in: SQLServer2005MSFTEUser$servername$instancename, SQLServer2005MSSQLUser$servername$instancename, SQLServer2005SQLAgentUser$servername$instancename
not sure if that will fix it or not, but it is worth a try...good luck

Somehow, the installation of MSXML 6 got corrupted.I'm tried to uninstall it, but the installer closes without any response.I tried then to reinstall it, and I the gives me this message: MSXML 6 Service Pack (KB954459) Setup Interrupted. Then, I used to remove MSXML 6 from my installed programs. After this, I tried to run the installer again, but the message has not changed.I found an equivalent question on, but I can't see the responses.I'm googling it for some time now, and I'm getting increasingly frustrated. Does anyone has experienced this problem?
Or better, does anyone knows a solution?I'm running an updated Windows XP Professional (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 3 (2600.xpspsp3gdr.0) on a Dell Latitude D630.By the way, I'm not sure if this is the best site to ask this. Maybe stackoverflow.com would be better, but it's not a strictly programming question.
